The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman who was killed in a single-car crash on Wednesday morning as 37-year-old Nyandiet Nathaniel Magang.

Deputies were dispatched to the 4300 block of Northwest Second Street for a report regarding a person who was struck by a car at around 5:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Magang, an Ankeny resident, died at the scene.

Witness reports and evidence at the scene indicate Magang was walking along the center line of the roadway when she entered the travel portion of the roadway and was struck, the news release said. The roadway, just north of Des Moines' city limits, does not have sidewalks.

The area was not well-lit and it was raining when Magang was struck by a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, the news release said.

This is the second pedestrian that has been struck and killed in the 4300 block of Northwest Second Street this year. On Jan. 29, a 41-year-old man identified as Joshua Scott Laird was struck by a car while walking in the southbound lanes of Northwest Second Street.

Witnesses in that crash also said the area was not well-lit and Laird was wearing dark clothing when the crash happened around 8:15 p.m.
