June was a busy month for Michigan. Aside from official visits, underclassmen arrived at Al Glick Field House for several of the camps hosted by the team. Among the out-of-state prospects who visited was Marcus Fakatou , the emerging 2028 EDGE out of Fontana (Calif.) Orange Lutheran.

“I loved it,” Fakatou told The Wolverine . “Definitely gave me Top 5 school vibes. I definitely loved being out there.”

Although yet to play in a high school game, Fakatou’s frame is currently at 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds. His colossal stature and athleticism have been among the catalysts in his eye-opening performances at various showcases this offseason. After competing at Michigan’s camp, he was presented with an offer.

“It was definitely overwhelming, especially with them coming off their national championship,” Fakatou said. “It was definitely cool getting an offer from a school that won a national championship.”

Fakatou was also given the opportunity to explore the facilities, including the weight room, which is consistently a strong selling point for recruits.

“I haven’t seen anything like it before,” Fakatou said. “So, that’s definitely another reason why I liked it because I had never seen anything like it (before). Especially being able to be in the biggest (weight room) in the country.”

Fakatou was closely monitored by Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito during the camp and the assistant is credited with offering the former.

“Man, it was special to me and my mom,” Fakatou said. “(He talked to my mom) and no (other) college has offered me with one of my parents on the line. So, she felt like it was a special one.”

Esposito will soon lead a defensive line group littered with lofty expectations this fall. Fakatou is aware of the recent history Michigan has enjoyed with its assembly line of NFL-bound pass rushers. Knowing that one of its top stars also came from Southern California has his attention.

“They produce a lot of good D-linemen,” Fakatou said. “They also had Aidan Hutchinson . I definitely like watching his highlights. That just shows that they’re really serious and really can develop. Seeing Mason (Graham) go from the Trinity League and still stand out means a lot to me.”

Head coach Sherrone Moore was another prominent staffer who showed hospitality to Fakatou in Ann Arbor.

“I loved his energy, man,” Fakatou said. “One of the best head coaches that I’ve met so far. I thought this one was special because (Moore) talked to me after every rep and every drill that we did. He would actually talk to me and say what he thinks I could do better. Getting compliments from him, too, meant a lot.”

A return trip from the incoming freshman could happen for one of the eight upcoming home games.

“That’s one thing I didn’t get to see – the stadium,” Fakatou said. “So, I definitely want to check that out and the fans. See what it’s like.”

Fakatou holds other notable offers from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Arizona, Auburn, Utah, Washington, BYU, and Arizona State.
