Michigan has offers on the table for a handful of 2027 recruits native to the state of Ohio. The most recent freshman to earn formal interest from the reigning national champions is Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph tight end D’Angelo White .

“It felt very good because it (tells me) that I’m that,” White told The Wolverine . “It feels very good.”

White publicly reported the offer while on his first-ever visit to U-M, which occurred in mid-June, two days after Ohio State pulled the trigger. He ventured to campus alongside his VASJ teammates.

“I liked it, it’s pretty nice,” White said. “It’s out the way. The facilities are nice. Everything is nice up there.”

When White was inside Schembechler Hall, he was given the opportunity to speak with Michigan tight ends coach Steve Casula , who ultimately entered the Wolverines in the mix.

“It was good because I didn’t think I was going to meet him at first until (a staffer) took me to meet him,” White said. “So, it was good. I felt good getting an offer from Coach.”

White and Casula are continuing to build a bond.

“He likes my size, height, the way I move,” White said. “I weigh 230-231 (pounds), 6’5″, and can move at that weight.”

Another Michigan assistant, with whom White has an early relationship, is running back coach Tony Alford. Cleveland is one of Alford’s primary recruiting areas and has carried over decade-long ties in the city to U-M following his tenure with OSU.

“He’s a good coach,” White said. “Very disciplined coach. A cool guy.”

The emphasis Michigan has put on its tight end room in recent history has piqued the interest of positional prospects, including White, who’s conducting further research about the team.

“I like a team that uses its tight ends because I’d like to be in the game a lot,” White said. “Be able to make plays for the team. Whether it’s in the run game or passing game.”

A planned return visit from White is expected to take place at the end of the month for the annual BBQ at The Big House.

“Meeting all of the coaches and meeting the head coach (Sherrone Moore) ,” White said. “Touring the facilities more so I can see more things. Seeing the culture.”

White is not yet listed on the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He holds other notable offers from Kentucky, Illinois, Cincinnati, Purdue, West Virginia, Miami (OH), Kent State, and Toledo.
