Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Potentially Facing Huge Punishment Over Alleged Cover-Up

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore may still be on the hook for allegedly trying to cover up contact with former team staffer Connor Stalions.

Moore and six others from Michigan's 2023 staff have been accused of violating NCAA rules, per a report from ESPN's Dan Murphy and Pete Thamel. The allegations were seen in a draft of the NCAA's Notice of Allegations.

The draft reportedly states that Moore allegedly deleted a 52-message text thread with Stalions in October of last year. The texts were said to have been recovered by "device imaging." At the time, Stalions was at the center of a huge sign-stealing scandal that rocked Michigan football.

The 38-year-old head coach could potentially be facing a show-cause penalty and even a suspension as a result of what's considered a Level 2 violation of NCAA rules.

If punished, Moore would reportedly be considered a "repeat offender" due to past allegations of contacting recruits during a COVID-19 recruiting dead period.

Moore took over Michigan head coaching duties from Jim Harbaugh in January. Harbaugh, Stalions, and fellow 2023 staff members Chris Partridge and Denard Robinson are accused of committing Level 1 violations, which are considered the "most serious category."

The Notice of Allegations against Michigan has been looming since last month. The Wolverines as a program are also considered to have committed a Level 1 offense, per the draft. The punishment Michigan potentially faces could be massive .
