One of Michigan’s June high school football camps featured an array of prospects associated with Washington-based Ford Sports Performance (FSP), a 7v7 and recruiting exposure service, including On300 Seattle (Wash.) O’Dea defensive lineman David Schwerzel .

“It was actually really great,” Schwerzel told The Wolverine . “We got there a little late, a little bit after the camp started. But it was awesome, though. I still got out there to showcase my skills and perform in front of the coaches and everything. At the end, we got ourselves a tour, me and my FSP guys. So, it was great. We were really just showing how Washington football is and that we’re slept on out here.”

Schwerzel, On3 ‘s No. 1 overall 2026 prospect in Washington, was offered by the reigning national champions in April of last year. He also holds legacy ties to the program through a close family member.

“Most definitely, I’m getting comfortable with (Michigan),” Schwerzel said. “My grandma went to Michigan. She’s a Wolverine herself. So, it was great to go down there and see the facilities and tour everything. She was stoked, for sure. She said she’d love to see me at her alma mater and wearing the maize and blue. But she said at the end of the day, it’s my decision, and it’s no pressure from her.”

Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito led instruction for the attending pass rush campers and Schwerzel was impressed with the former’s teachings.

“He was great,” Schwerzel said. “He’s a great coach. He definitely knows what he’s doing. With them winning the natty, it really shows that they got a really good defense, and the defensive line is a big role for their team. He’s really passionate, for sure, and he definitely knows what he’s talking about. It shows by the players and his effect on them and their performance.”

“The resume speaks for itself. Aiden Hutchinson , all those guys performing in the league. It really starts in college because I feel they definitely know how to prepare their defense linemen for the next level.”

Schwerzel also had a memorable conversation with Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore .

“It was great,” Schwerzel said. “He’s a great coach, great guy. I can tell that his plans for Michigan are big, and I’m excited to see how they do this year in the future.”

Two players on the roster are connected with FSP – junior tight end Colston Loveland and freshman tight end Hogan Hansen . Schwerzel was pleased to talk in-depth with Loveland on the visit.

“He was just telling us great things about the Michigan program and all that,” Schwerzel said. “So, it was great to see him. A guy that’s been in my position before.”

Schwerzel doesn’t have a set date to return, but he’s eyeing The Big House experience with fans packing the stands.

“I definitely want to go back for a game,” Schwerzel said. “That’ll probably be No. 1 on my bucket list, for sure. That atmosphere is unmatched. That’s really my main thing, just being able to catch a game and see the atmosphere on a Saturday.”

At 6-foot-3, 260 pounds, Schwerzel is also listed as the No. 174 overall prospect and No. 16 defensive lineman in the country, according to On3
