ANNAPOLIS — In consultation with the U.S. Coast Guard and out of an abundance of caution, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is holding traffic temporarily at the Bay Bridge for approximately 15-30 minutes today between 11 a.m. and noon.

The closing is out of an abundance of caution as the M/V Dali passes beneath the bridge on its way to Norfolk. Four tugs are escorting the Dali to provide anchoring support along its entire Norfolk journey.

According to the Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff undue traffic congestion is not anticipated on the east side of the bridge.

Authorities from the sheriff's office said by closing the bridge temporarily, officials are avoiding the risk of motorists driving over the Bay trying to look at the ship involved in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

Travelers are advised to contact 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) or follow us on X/Twitter at https://x.com/TheMDTA for real-time updates during this event.
