A Maryland Transportation Authority Police investigation revealed that a person fired shots at another vehicle while driving on the westbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in June. The suspect in that "non-contact" shooting was arrested by police this week, a release said.

Police officers reported that a person in a black Jeep fired multiple shots towards a silver Mitsubishi while driving across the Bridge’s span toward Anne Arundel County on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m. The Jeep’s driver then exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the Mitsubishi’s driver.

The suspect, Melvin Clark of Anne Arundel County, was brought to an Annapolis detention center on Wednesday morning after being arrested on a warrant that included a first-degree assault charge, reckless endangerment, driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and other charges.

“Those charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” the release from the Maryland Transportation Authority said.
