Rumriver Art Center in Anoka is set to present a new gallery show titled “Rock and Rollerskate” by Rachel Coyne. The gallery opening will take place in the 21 Step Gallery, 2665 fourth Ave., Suite 201 on Saturday, June 15 from 2-4 p.m.

The gallery show will feature acrylic paintings on paper reminiscing about roller skating. Coyne will also host an artist talk on Saturday, June 29 from 1-2 p.m., where attendees can meet her, learn about her life as an artist, and the creative process she uses in creating her artwork. These events are free and open to the public.

Coyne is a writer and painter. Roller skating at Cheapskate as a kid remains some of her favorite memories of childhood. As a skater, she favored white skates with large pink pom poms. Her tastes today remain largely the same, though she acknowledges that ‘80s nostalgia is actually more fun than the ‘80s really were.

This show is about the colors, the freedom, and the fun of roller skating. The images evoke nostalgia of 1960s-80s skating rinks, awesome music and young love.

The show will be on display through July 3.
