ANTIGO — A craft and vendor fair will be held on 5th Ave. Saturday from 1-7 p.m.

Saturday’s is the first of five events in a series. Continuing in June, those will be held one Saturday each month until September as part of the Summer Antigo Craft and Vendor Fair series.

An assortment of goods will be sold at the events, which will take place on the corner of 5th and Edison in the vacant lot next to MC Creations, according to event organizer Pamela McClure.

“We have people that will be selling sublimated mugs and tumblers, shirts. We have somebody that does glass work, various home decor. We have people that do crocheted items, a lot of handmade jewelry from local people,” McClure said. “Color Street will be one of our vendors on a regular basis. We will have somebody from Epicure some days. Somebody from Avon’s going to be there this week. All You Knead will be there selling their breads. We have a couple other people that sell baked goods. We have someone that is doing macrame.

There are plant hangers. There’s a l’bri person that’s going to be there. Then we have somebody who sells paper pie books. This week we’re going to have somebody who has plant terrariums. There’s deco wreaths. There’s a very wide variety.”

McClure encouraged community members to attend the fair and support both local and out-of-town vendors.

“We have a lot of new vendors that have not been there in Antigo before, so there will be a lot of new things for people to see,” she said. “Somebody’s coming from Land O’ Lakes — she used to live locally and she recently moved to Land O’ Lakes, but she wants to sell here. We have somebody coming from Oshkosh. So we are drawing sellers from different communities that want to sell here, because we’re starting to get a good reputation for our events.”

McClure said she expects a strong turnout for Saturday’s craft and vendor fair, especially given that it will coincide with another 1-7 p.m. 5th Ave. event: the Sip and Stroll Wine Walk, a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored wine tasting which will allow those who pre-register to sample the wares from local Wisconsin wineries.

“We usually have a very good turnout when we partner with downtown events, so yes, we are expecting a lot of people,” she said. “Various vendors will have snacks in their booths for different people, because who doesn’t need a snack when they’re sampling wine?” she laughed.

McClure said the Summer Antigo Craft and Vendor Fair series, under the name “Makers Markets,” began about three years ago in an effort to attract business to the downtown.

“This year, it was suggested changing the name because it sounded too much like a farmer’s market,” she said. “The first year we did it on Fridays and that didn’t work out very well. Last year, Nicole Smith and I organized it and we did it every weekend. But halfway through the summer they just lost interest, because it was the same people coming every time. So this summer, we’re going to do it once a month to keep people interested.”

After Saturday’s event, the next downtown craft and vendor fairs will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 15, July 20, August 17, and Sept. 21.
