ANTIGO — The Antigo Farmers Market will be celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, and this could be the largest market yet.

The first market will be held June 1 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Heinzen Pavilion in Peaceful Valley Park at 420 Field Street. It will run every Saturday morning until September 28.

The Antigo Farmers Market is a nonprofit organization run by a five-member volunteer board which includes Vicky Adamski, the president of the board, who has also been a vendor at the market for the past 15 years.

“It’s a nice venue for the people on a Saturday morning, whether they’re visiting Antigo or looking for camaraderie among friends and families to just come and enjoy the market itself,” Adamski said. “The fruits, the vegetables, the vendors — it’s just a nice social event, besides getting your products locally, and it’s surprising how many locals come to each one.”

Joining Adamski on the board are Sally Hull, Lynn Frey, Heather Peterson, Caitlyn Zaverousky, and Colleen Gelhausen, the market’s manager.

The market offers a variety of fruits, vegetables, maple syrup, baked goods, ice cream, plants, crafts, as well as a friendly environment for family and friends to gather. Vendor turnout at the market has been consistently increasing over the past years.

“The market itself has grown,” Adamski said. “In fact, the applications we got in this year was the largest number we’ve ever gotten to be vendors at the market.”

Each week, the market also offers an open space for area nonprofits to promote themselves, sell products, and more.

More information about the board, market, membership, vendor applications, and rules can be found at antigofarmersmarket.com or on the market’s Facebook page.
