Holy City of the Wichitas – Comanche County OK
The Holy City of the Wichitas represents an utterly unique Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, located on federal land in the Wichita Mountains, Comanche County, northwest of Lawton, Oklahoma. Since 1936 the WPA project has been home to the nation’s longest-running Easter pageant, which began in the 1920s. Per the Oklahoma Historical Society:
