Drunken driving checkpoints will take place in Monmouth Beach and Sea Girt this weekend, according to the Monmouth County DWI Task Force.

The first one in Monmouth Beach will take place from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday. All southbound vehicles on Ocean Avenue will be diverted into the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, where all drivers will be screened to ensure they are not intoxicated, said Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, task force coordinator.

The second one in Sea Girt will take place from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday. All southbound vehicles on Route 71 will be diverted into the Sea Girt Professional Building, where all drivers there will be screened to determine their sobriety, Schneider said.

In both boroughs, local police officers will be working alongside law enforcement officers from the task force during the four-hour operations, he said.

“DWI arrests always rise during the summer months and the Monmouth County DWI Task Force will continue to do everything they can to further their goals of education, deterrence and enforcement,” Schneider explained.
