Toms River North, No. 1 in the Shore Super 25 high school football rankings, is on the road Friday night (7 p.m.) opening its season against Downingtown East, of Pennsylvania. Hoping to help get the Mariners off to a good start is four-star senior offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews, a Rutgers commit.

Matthews is considered New Jersey’s top offensive lineman college prospect from his class and is a U.S. Army All-American. He picked Rutgers earlier this summer Rutgers not making his list of finalists (which featured Georgia, Tennessee and the University of Miami).
