As part of Sutter County Museum’s speaker series, the president of the Sutter County Museum Association, Phyllis Smith, who is a self-described trail nerd, shared information on Thursday about the Oregon California Trails Association and the routes 19th-century emigrants took to make their way to California before, during and after the Gold Rush.

Smith said she is a very active member of the Oregon-California Trails Association. A nonprofit organization, it was created in 1982 and works to preserve the Oregon and California trails. She is the treasurer of the association’s California-Nevada Chapter, and she is also on committees for the national group.
