A 15-year-old boy is accused of stealing a car in Apple Valley to perform stunts, then leading deputies on a high speed pursuit through Apple Valley before ultimately being arrested early Thursday, officials said.

A man called 911 about 3 a.m. to report two cars had been stolen from outside his home in the 19000 block of Tecumseh Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"The caller believed the suspects were in the area and were doing donuts with the vehicles near his residence," the sheriff's department said in a written statement.

Both stolen cars were found abandoned, officials said. One of them sustained damage after hitting a parked vehicle.

Deputies learned that two people got out of the stolen cars and fled the area in a green Kia Soul, which was parked nearby.

A deputy spotted a car matching the description and tried to pull it over, initiating a pursuit, officials said.

"Deputies pursued the vehicle throughout Apple Valley, at times reaching speeds in excess of 90 mph, for approximately 11 minutes," according to the statement.

They ultimately used spike strips to bring the fleeing Kia to a halt, officials said. The driver and passenger ran away.

Deputies apprehended the driver, who was identified as a 15-year-old boy from Apple Valley, authorities said. The passenger was not found.

The young suspect was booked at a juvenile hall on suspicion of auto theft and evading police.
