An Apple Valley man died following an off-road vehicle crash in the Reeves Dry Lake on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Angel J. Rivera, 33, died in the wreck, which took place just before 4 a.m. in the dry lake bed west of Fairview Valley Road, according to California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County coroner's officials.

He was driving a 2019 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS side-by-side with his sister, a 35-year-old Las Vegas woman, riding as a passenger, officials said.

"The driver of the Yamaha conducted an unsafe turning movement to the left, causing the Yamaha to overturn onto its side, subsequently causing the male to be partially ejected," according to a CHP statement.

The vehicle came to rest on top of the Rivera, CHP logs show.

Paramedics pronounced Rivera dead at the scene, officials said. The passenger was not injured.

Rivera is survived by a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son, according to a statement accompanying a a fundraiser established on GoFuneMe.com .

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact the CHP's Victorville Office at (760) 241-1186.
