Astria Sunnyside Hospital reopens after radiation scare

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - UPDATE: 5 p.m. - Astria Sunnyside Hospital has reopened.

Astria Sunnyside Hospital is currently diverting patients to other health care facilities due to contamination concerns, according to the Sunnyside Police Department.

The SPD put out an alert on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon. Apple Valley News Now confirmed with SPD it is a real post and the ER and some of its patients are being decontaminated after possibly being exposed to radiation.

Authorities said people showed up to the hospital Sunday after being exposed to radiation at a construction site outside of Sunnyside. They did not release information on where the construction site was located.

They are asking people to avoid the area of the hospital until an all clear is given. Authorities said it would release more information as it was made available.

The Washington State Patrol has taken over the investigation.
