Selah Aquatic Center levy passing with just 500 votes left to count

SELAH, Wash. — Ballots continue to come in for Yakima County’s August primary, with over 43,700 ballots on hand and about 500 left to count as of Monday.

The levy to support the Selah Aquatic Center through 2025 is currently passing, with 62.54% of voters in favor.

The levy, which requires a 60% supermajority to pass, asks for seven cents per thousand dollars of assessed property tax value, translating to about $21 per year for the owner of a $300,000 home.

While the results are not final until certification on August 20, the margin suggests the outcome is unlikely to change.

“I don't think the margins of difference are small enough to be affected by that," Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross said. "I just can't see it changing."

Looking ahead, military ballots for the general election will start going out Sept. 20, with regular ballots to follow on Oct. 10.
