FRANKLIN CO., Wash. — Franklin County Fire District Three added a levy lid lift to the primary ballot but more than 50% of voters have rejected the levy lid lift.

Apple Valley News Now Spoke with Franklin County Fire District Three Chief Mike Harris and he said it's back to the drawing board.

“I have to meet with our fire commissioners. You know, their elected board it’s separate from the county we have within our fire district. We have our own elected Board of Commissioners elected by the constituents within the fire district. We're going to regroup and find out, you know, do we need to run it again next year or on the November ballot’” Chief Harris said.

By not receiving the $1.28 per $1,000 of assessed property it sets the fire district behind in expansion Chief Harris said.

“We're still going to have to respond with two ambulances, we're still going to have to cover the calls in our district, helping our neighbors and provide that same level of service. It just might take us quite a bit longer to either hire another firefighter that we need or to build up our reserve fund,” Chief Harris said.

It also plays a role in their ability to respond to certain scenes, Chief Harris said.

“We won't have as much equipment laying around our stations to send out to help some of these fires, I know we got two pieces of equipment that I know we need to replace, but without the money to replace them, will probably just not send them out or use them, and then we might have to just keep our front line stuff closer to home and maybe not be part of that large wildland response that we used to be,” Chief Harris said.

The fire district has until November to finalize their 2025 budget plan Chief Harris said.
