HERMISTON, Ore. — The Hermiston Melon Fest is back this weekend. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, there’s a full day of family-friendly fun, celebrating the Pacific Northwest’s iconic watermelons.

Melon Fest is happening on Main St. and Festival St. (Second St.) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Roads will be closed down there starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.

“Hermiston just has a very good reputation for raising the sweetest, juiciest, watermelons in the state of Oregon,” said Judy Currin-Pederson, the president of Downtown Hermiston.

There are three main watermelon producers in the area, organizers said, which means there’s a lot of fruit.

“17 truck-fulls a day from just one supplier. So, I mean, they're going out everywhere, and so, a lot of watermelons come out of Hermiston,” said Brandon Artz, the parks and recreation director with the City of Hermiston.

There is free watermelon, musical performances, more than 50 vendors and contests and activities throughout the day. There will also be free watermelon face painting at the event.

This is the schedule of events for Saturday.
