    Vegetation fire destroys home, damages property near Benton City Saturday

    BENTON CO., Wash. -- At least one home is destroyed and other buildings are damaged after a large wildfire grew out of control just outside of Benton City Saturday afternoon.

    The fire started just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 56000 Block of North Thomas Road.

    No evacuations have been placed.

    Some agencies that responded to the blaze were Benton County Fire District 2 & 5, Franklin County Fire District 3, Kennewick Fire Department, and the West Benton Fire Rescue.

    At least three helicopters are on scene and dropping water on the blaze to help stop the spread. The strong winds were a major factor in putting out the flames.

    It appears the fire started in dry brush and spread to nearby homes. The National Interagency Fire Center said the blaze is about 10 acres.

    At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown. It's unknown if anyone is hurt.
