A bit warmer for Friday, Heat Advisory in place for the weekend

Today: Friday will be a sunny day with good air quality. Highs will be a few degrees above average for late August. It’ll be around 90 degrees for the Kittitas Valley, Yakima Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, and Blue Foothills. Winds will be light.

Tonight: Skies stay clear this evening. Overnight lows will turn a bit milder with mid to upper-50s for the Kittitas Valley, Yakima Valley, and Lower Columbia Basin. It’ll be in the low-60s in the Blue Foothills. Winds will stay light.

NWS Pendleton has issued a Heat Advisory for the Kittitas Valley, Yakima Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, and Blue Foothills. This goes from 11 AM Saturday - 9 PM Sunday. A Heat Advisory is also in place for the Southern Blue Mountains (of Morrow and Umatilla counties) and for the eastern slopes of the Cascades (in Yakima and Kittitas counties). This runs on Sunday from 5 AM - 9 PM.

Extended: We’ll incrementally heat things back up through Sunday–in pretty sizable increments! By Sunday, we could return to values about 10 degrees above average (mid to upper-90s in Tri-Cities and Yakima). Labor Day will be a return to seasonal values (low-90s in Tri-Cities and Yakima), and Tuesday will be even cooler. However, there are some small shower and thunderstorm chances for Monday and Tuesday, specifically around our mountain ranges. Given this stretch of hot and dry weather we’re about to go through, vegetation is about to turn very dry once again. With the chance of lightning in the forecast, we’ll continue to track the fire-start potential very closely.
