Therriault Appointed to California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training
Benjamin Therriault, of the City of Martinez, has been appointed to the California Commission of Peace Officer standards and Training by Governor Gavin Newsom. Benjamin Therriault, of Martinez, has been appointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Therriault has been a Police Sergeant at the Richmond Police Department since 2023, where he was a Police Officer from 2009 to 2023. He served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Air Force from 2001 to 2007. Therriault is President of the Richmond Police Officers Association, Vice President of the Peace Officers Research Association of California and a member of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Martinez Civil Service Commission, Martinez Refinery Oversight Commission, Contra Costa 100 Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Center for Youth Development through Law Board of Directors and the Richmond Police Activities League Board of Directors. Therriault earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of San Francisco. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Therriault is a Democrat.

Homelessness dips in Santa Cruz, rises in Watsonville

Harmful plankton bloom hits Capitola, impacting local health and economy
CAPITOLA, Calif. — A harmful plankton bloom, commonly referred to as a red tide, is washing up in Capitola, impacting the local community's health and economy. "Sometimes you'll see the county posting signs, quarantining mussels and other shellfish if they detected some kind of a toxin in that shellfish, they don't want humans to eat it," said Santa Cruz Harbor Master Blake Anderson. "It can definitely slow the fishing down. Fishing isn't that great in a red tide, but we are still seeing some people do it."

MONTEREY, CA.- With its mission to celebrate the diversity of California art past, present and future, the Monterey Museum of Art’s (MMA) fall 2024 exhibition season presents Imagining China: The Art of Belle Yang and Joseph Yang, on view from September 12 – November 24, 2024. The first cultural institution to exhibit Belle Yang and her father Joseph Yang’s work in a creative conversation, the Museum today also announces that Ms. Yang has promised a significant number of her own works, as well as her father’s works to MMA’s permanent collection (currently on long term loan); and has pledged substantial support to create an endowment for catalogue production. Belle Yang shares, “Joseph Yang was my mentor throughout his life, and even now from the afterlife. For both of us, creativity is the reason we are on this Earth, and I feel a lightening of a load to know that our art will remain together as a legacy to inspire others.”
