Towns Grant Police Harbor Patrol Designation
A boat crash on Chappaquiddick earlier this year prompted two Island police departments to designate more officers to harbor patrols to better enforce the law on the water. Both Edgartown and Oak Bluffs police got permission from their select boards in recent weeks to have their officers handle incidents on the water after an allegedly drunk Cotuit man crashed his 43-foot yacht on Chappy in May.
Oak Bluffs police respond to over 200 incidents in a week, including fights, vandalism, and DUIs
OAK BLUFFS — The Oak Bluffs Police Department reported handling a total of 209 incidents this past week, from Monday, July 15 to Sunday, July 21. The week began with officers responding to a fight involving multiple males and juveniles at Healy Square and Post Office Square early Monday morning.
