Cops: Man arrested after fatal wreck

ARCADIA — A man is under arrest after a fatal wreck killed an as-of-yet unidentified victim.

According to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol, Alejandro Sanchez Maqueda, 37, of Arcadia, was driving an SUV about 10:55 p.m. Friday along State Road 31.

He was driving the SUV northbound, just south of Southeast North Hog Bay.

At the same time, an unidentified man was driving another SUV southbound at the same location.

"(Maqueda's vehicle) traveled onto the southbound travel lane and entered the path of Vehicle 2," the news release stated.

The vehicles collided and both overturned.

"One driver confirmed deceased on scene," it stated.

The crash happened at the Arcadia city limits.

"(Maqueda) was placed under arrest for DUI Manslaughter and DUI property damage and booked into the Desoto County Jail," it stated.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, it stated.

"The crash remains under investigation," it stated.
