County swimmers get many victories at Enchanted Forest
Noblesville Swim Club began an annual summer tradition last Friday as the Enchanted Forest Swim Meet started at the Forest Park Aquatic Center. The first day of competition featured some of the long-distance events, with Hamilton County swimmers getting victories. Southeastern Swim Club’s Kinsey Bogaards won the Girls 13-14 400 individual medley, while Audrey Crawford claimed first place in the Girls Open 400 IM.

Carmel dives in to support Olympic swimmers
The City of Carmel has chosen to honor three Olympians, Alex & Aaron Shackell and Drew Kibler, and Coach Chris Plumb by temporarily renaming three of the city’s streets. Last Friday morning, Carmel residents and Olympic swimmers (and siblings) Aaron and Alex Shackell, along with Carmel High School and newly-appointed Olympic Coach Chris Plumb, joined Mayor Sue Finkam in Midtown Plaza. The Olympians were presented with street signs displaying their names, which will temporarily replace Midtown Boulevard, Elm Street, First Street, and Second Street until the Olympics have concluded. Swimmer Drew Kibler was not able to attend the media day but will have a street named for him.

Swimmers make Olympic team – Three swimmers from Carmel will compete in the Olympic games this summer in Paris. Aaron Shackell, a 2023 Carmel High School graduate and Carmel Swim Club athlete, finished first in the 400-meter freestyle in the Olympic Swimming Trials June 16 at Lucas Oil Stadium to earn a spot on the team. He will be joined by his sister, Alex Shackell, 17, who finished second in the 200-meter butterfly June 20 at the swimming trials. 2018 CHS graduate Drew Kibler finished third in the 200-meter freestyle June 17 at the trials to earn a spot on the U.S. team competing in the relay.

Seven Kirklin Taekwondo Academy Members Attend AAU National Championships In Florida
Midwest Taekwondo Academy in Kirklin announced that three instructors and four students are beginning the month of July by attending the national championships in Florida. Seven members of the Midwest Taekwondo Academy residing in Kirklin are attending the 2024 AAU Taekwondo National Championships, which kicked off Sunday, June 30 and will continue through July 6 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The academy announced that Master Eric Waterman will be officiating and performing forms and weapons, Master Kristin Waterman will be performing forms and weapons and Andrea Rapp will be performing forms, weapons and Olympic sparring during the championships.
