According to Rapid Speedway officials in Rock Rapids, due to the record flooding in the area in June, the races at Rapid Speedway have been suspended until further notice. At last report, large portions of the track remained underwater, and the fence was completely gone.
Arizona Man Facing Felony OWI Charge After Traffic Stop Near Sioux Center
Sioux Center, Iowa — A Yuma, Arizona man has been arrested on a felony OWI charge after a traffic stop near Sioux Center. According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Michael Walker of Yuma, Arizona is accused of driving drunk. He was arrested on Sunday.

Rock Valley man injured in crash of semi
HAWARDEN—A 43-year-old Rock Valley man was injured in a one-vehicle crash about 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, on Highway 10, four miles east of Hawarden. Pieter Hanekom was driving a 2009 Peterbilt semitruck east when he said a tire ruptured, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which entered the north ditch and rolled onto the driver’s side, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

GEORGE—A 44-year-old George man was arrested about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, on a charge of public intoxication. The arrest of Michael Dean Ubbinga stemmed from complaints from lifeguards, parents and children that he was acting inappropriately at the George Swimming Pool, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Bailey Lux, the 14-year-old warrior from Carroll was reunited with her two favorite basketball stars during the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces game last (Tuesday) night. Lux, who has been battling MPNST Sarcoma for the past two years, discovered in May after starting a low dose oral chemo, that the treatment was not effective and the cancer spread very quickly since the last scans. State officials estimate 2000 homes were damaged or destroyed during recent flooding in northwest Iowa. After previous flooding in Cherokee, FEMA bought out 40 properties. Another 70 homes in Cherokee were destroyed in this year’s flooding and Cherokee Mayor Craig Schmidt said he doesn’t know where people will go.
