Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is entering a pivotal year in 2024, and one of his teammates believes he will rise to the occasion.

Cardinals tight end Trey McBride is looking forward to what is hopefully Murray’s first full 17-game campaign since 2021 and thinks that that the signal-caller could make a run at MVP.

“This is my third year with him now and he seems more motivated than ever,” McBride said on NFL Network, via Michael Baca of NFL.com . “He’s a guy who’s bringing everyone together. We’re throwing every weekend, we’re getting everyone together. He’s in the building first one in and last one out. He’s one of those guys who’s doing everything the right way. This is the most confident I’ve seen him. This is the first year I’ve been fully healthy with him — he’s fully healthy — I think everything is trending the right way. He has a ton of weapons out there and I have full confidence that he’s capable of an MVP season.”

Murray tore his ACL 11 games into the 2022 season and ended up missing nine games last year due to his recovery period.

During his time on the field in 2023, Murray showed flashes of his old self, throwing for 1,799 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 65.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 89.4. He also rushed for 244 yards and three scores.

Can Trey McBride build on his breakout 2023 campaign?

McBride was clearly Murray’s favorite target last season and ended up hauling in 81 receptions for 825 yards and three touchdowns.

The question is whether or not McBride can replicate his success.

Some have wondered if McBride’s gaudy numbers in 2023 were merely a result of Arizona playing from behind a lot. Plus, outside of Marquise Brown, who missed some time with injuries, the Cardinals didn’t exactly have a plethora of weapons.

This offseason, Arizona selected Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft, so McBride will certainly have some competition for targets. Also, Michael Wilson seems primed to have a breakout year after displaying considerable potential last season.

The good news is that McBride has seemed to develop a very strong rapport with Murray, so the signal-caller could be looking for the 24-year-old a lot again in 2024.

The Cardinals have gone just 4-13 each of the last two campaigns, but they should almost certainly have a better season this time around with Kyler Murray healthy and back in the fold.
