According to the Arizona Weatherman, on Friday, 9 August 2024, the Arizona monsoon is still in effect. The northern section of the state will be isolated but more widespread, even in the most northern part of the state. Furthermore, the Southeast will have isolated to scattered thunderstorm activity that will likely have severe weather associated with it.

The Mogollon Rim will fire up after 1 p.m. and will be more isolated; however, coverage will expand more to the north. In the Southeast, expect thunderstorms to kick up around 1 pm and move toward the northeast through the day. Cochise, Santa Cruz, and Eastern Pima County will have the initial activity, and it will move into Pinal County in the late afternoon with the steering flow. The stability indices look moderate to high with upper-level speed divergence in place, so there is a chance of severe weather such as >60 mph winds, dust in prone areas, hail less than an inch, and localized flooding possible today. The best chance for severe will be Santa Cruz, Cochise, Eastern Pima, and Pinal Counties.

Some of the locations to get thunderstorms in the vicinity or overhead are the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Prescott, and Payson to the north. To the south, Tucson includes Sahuarita, Santa Cruz County, Willcox, Sierra Vista, and Douglas. The Phoenix area will be more vicinity to the east in the evening hours.
