STANTON COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — A South Dakota man was cited after driving 118 mph in a 65 mph zone in northeast Nebraska.

On Sunday afternoon just after 1 p.m., a deputy for the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office clocked a car going 118 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to a Stanton County Sheriff’s Office press release . The incident happened on Highway 57 about 12 miles south of Stanton

Authorities reported the driver, Ariz Zarate-Gonzalez, 19, of Arlington, S.D., told the deputy that stopped him that he was in a hurry to get home, but first needed to make a pit stop at Raising Canes to get chicken strips.

The sheriff’s office wants to remind the community that they take speeding violations seriously and discourage everyone from “driving foolishly and putting innocent people at unwarranted risk.”

“High speeds in and of themselves are not considered reckless driving no matter how fast the speed, according to Nebraska law that has been set by the Nebraska state legislature,” Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said.

Zarate-Gonzalez was cited for careless driving and speeding.
