Ingrid Andress, the singer at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby, has revealed the reason behind the backlash over her national anthem performance—she was intoxicated.

The event, which took place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, ended with Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the Derby crown, a historic victory for him as he became the first Dodger ever to win the event.

Andress' rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" drew significant criticism on social media and from players participating in the Home Run Derby, who were unimpressed with her performance.

Addressing the incident on Tuesday, Andress admitted on X, "I'm not gonna bull**** y'all, I was drunk last night. I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need."

"That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is—I hear it's super fun. xo, Ingrid," she added.

Her confession sparked a range of reactions from fans and the public. Some commended her honesty.

Others expressed skepticism and disbelief regarding her explanation.

Major League Baseball has not issued a statement on the matter yet. Fans and supporters have offered encouragement to Andress as she seeks assistance.
