Diesel spill near Mapleton reaches Willow Creek
(Mapleton) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a diesel spill in a tributary of Willow Creek in Monona County. On Sunday, The Monona County Sheriff’s Office notified the DNR Atlantic Field Office of a pickup truck running off the road into Pumpkin Run. This small tributary travels east to Willow Creek, northwest of Mapleton.
Ireton charging to dig up information on burial plots
IRETON—The Ireton City Council at its Monday meeting approved two fees for the city’s work locating burial plots in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Going forward there will be a $100 charge for maintenance supervisor Jordan Richardson to complete the task during regular business hours Monday-Friday. There will be a $200 charge if the request is for the work to be done in an evening or during the weekend.

Jayettes Dive into Competitions Thursday
Perry swimming will have their first competition of the fall this Thursday. The Jayettes will share the McCreary Center with Algona. Both schools begin the season on that day. Perry swimming has been strong the last few years sending multiple athletes to the State meet. The hope is to do the same again this year. The squad is led by senior Quin Mahler. The Jayettes also return multiple others with varsity experience. They open the season with a team they’ll see 5 times on the schedule, Algona. The first event will take place at 6:30P at the McCreary Center. Perry will utilize Bound ticketing this year. Cash will not be accepted for admission to Perry athletic events.

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids family is pretty upset after they say their five-year-old walked out of Pierce Elementary School unnoticed Monday morning. John Thompson, the child’s father, told the Cedar Rapids School Board at Monday evening's meeting that his daughter thought she was in trouble during recess, so she left to find her brother. Unable to find him, she assumed he had left without her and decided to walk out of the school.
