A new school, a new culture: Ascension Parish introduces Prairieville High School
Eight years and $118 million later, Prairieville High School and its mascot — the Hurricanes — have arrived in Ascension Parish. Officials unveiled the long-awaited addition to the parish at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, with a focus on establishing a culture in a community with distinctive school spirit and rivalries.
Ceremony held for new Prairieville High School
Ascension Parish Public Schools held a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 18 at the new Prairieville High School, which will be the district's fifth public high school. The ceremony was the second of three events to mark the completion of projects funded by a $140 million construction bond approved by parish voters in 2020.

LSP: Gonzales man arrested for possession of child pornography
GONZALES, La. (WAFB) - An Ascension Parish man has been arrested and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography. Louisiana State Police said Benton R. Bateman, of Gonzales, 48, was taken into custody after a joint investigation by the State Police Special Victims Unit and the FBI. The investigation began in March 2024.

DONALDSONVILLE, La. (WAFB) - The 23rd Judicial District Court announced the following guilty pleas entered during the week of July 8-12, 2024:. 1. Christopher Watkins, Westwego, LA, age 40, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (8 counts) and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisianan Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
