Branch Closures Leave Oregonians With Fewer Banking Options

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency releases a report on bank branch closures each week, and unfortunately, Oregon has been hard hit by these closures.

This week, seven US Bank locations in Oregon closed.

    • US Bank. 4920 Northeast 42nd Ave, Portland
    • US Bank. 129 North Canyon Blvd, John Day
    • US Bank. 518 North First St, Lakeview
    • US Bank. 619 Southeast Main St, Roseburg
    • US Bank. 206 South Bridge, Sheridan
    • US Bank. 610 Eeast Broadway St, Milton Freewater
    • US Bank. Evergreen Shopping Center Highway, Clatskanie

In addition the Keybank at 825 NE Multnoman in Portland will close in the coming weeks.

Over the last few years, nine percent of all branches — almost 7,000 locations— shut their doors. The increase in bank closures means many people must travel further to reach their nearest bank, primarily impacting vulnerable and elderly customers.

    Your thoughts

Do these branch closures affect you? Will you move to online banking? Will you switch to a credit union? Should branches stay open for people who prefer to conduct their banking in person? Do you have confidence in your local bank? Why do you think so many branches are closing in Oregon?
