City asks North Portland couple to pay $20K for tree removal: 'It's provided so much entertainment and life'
PORTLAND, Ore. — The city of Portland is requesting the removal of a centuries-old white oak tree, asking the homeowners to pay for the removal. The historic tree, known for its stature, has been identified for removal due to a fungus at its base. The cost to remove it could exceed $20,000.
Multnomah County drug deflection center gets official opening date
PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County's drug deflection center will officially open Oct. 14, county officials confirmed Monday. The facility was initially planned to open Sept. 1, coinciding with the recriminalization of hard drugs in Oregon and the start of the county's deflection program, but staffing and renovation challenges prevented it from hitting that target.
Wilsonville Fall Harvest Festival coming soon
Wilsonville residents can join in fall festivities at the Harvest Festival later this month. The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Stein-Boozier Barn in Murase Plaza. According to the city website, free Wilsonville-grown pumpkins will be available along with a petting zoo, horse and carriage rides, a kids costume parade, live music and more. Parking is “extremely limited,” the website said, so residents are encouraged to drop off family members in the Murase Plaza roundabout and park in nearby parking lots. More information can be found on the city’s website.
Oregon, Washington move ahead with tolling plans for present and future Interstate Bridge
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Despite Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek's pause on plans to toll Portland-area interstates earlier this year, tolls are coming sooner than rather than later. Partly, that's because 2026 isn't all that far off and the Oregon Department of Transportation desperately needs funding one way or another — but it's also because the Interstate Bridge was never included in the governor's tolling moratorium, and tolling has long been a part of the planning for its replacement.
