    Police arrest drug trafficking co-conspirators in Asheville

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – The Asheville Police Department arrested two co-conspirators for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking near a hotel in east Asheville.

    During the course of an investigation near a hotel on the 140 block of Tunnel Road, detectives identified and charged 53-year-old Brandi Yanette Haynes and 33-year-old Christopher Quamanie Hammett for drug trafficking.

    The police department said when they took Haynes and Hammett into custody on Monday afternoon, Haynes was in possession of a concealed gun and what they described as a “trafficking amount of drugs.” Reports state Hammett also was in possession of drugs.

    During the arrests, detectives seized a KelTec pistol, 148.34 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of crack cocaine and 2.5 grams of fentanyl.

    Hayne and Hammett have been charged with the following:

    Brandi Yanette Haynes

    • felony trafficking in methamphetamine by possession
    • felony possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule II
    • felony possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule VI
    • felony possess schedule II
    • felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances
    • carrying a concealed gun
    • possession of drug paraphernalia

    Haynes was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond.

    Christopher Quamanie Hammett

    • possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule II x2
    • felony possess schedule II
    • resist, delay, or obstruct

    Hammett was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $50,000 bond.
