1 dead in Asheville fight, police say

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Detectives with the Asheville Police Department are investigating a fight that killed a person.

According to the police department, a call came in regarding a fight with weapons at a Depot Street apartment complex around 7:22 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officials found a man with serious injuries; who was then transported to Mission Hospital, where they later died.

Asheville Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Caleb Savon Gilliam.

A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with first degree murder. The name of the suspect has not been released due to their age.

The suspect was turned over to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to Asheville Police.
