The former Head Start building on the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians reservation that’s been recently used as a warming shelter has been a high concern due to suspected substance abuse.

Test results from May 1 indicate one bathroom in the building was at an unsafe level. The surrounding rooms were also tested and are safe, according to a news release from the Bad River tribe.

As a result of the unsafe bathroom, the entire building will now be tested out of caution and the building will be closed until further notice. Once cleaning and testing is completed, the faculty will be re-tested to ensure safety.
