Worcester: Repairs to Heard Street bridge taking longer than expected
WORCESTER — Repairs to the Heard Street bridge, closed three weeks ago after the span was heavily damaged by gushing water from a broken water main, are taking longer than expected. City officials said earlier that repairs were expected to be wrapped up this week. But plenty more work remains, with a new target date of Aug. 9, according to the city. The span, over railroad tracks, has been closed to vehicles since July 8 after an embankment and other areas were washed away. Pedestrians are allowed to cross the bridge.
