Mass. astronaut continues orbiting space due to spaceship malfunctions
One of the NASA astronauts who’s been orbiting space for weeks due to several malfunctions on her spaceship is a Massachusetts native. Although Sunita L. Williams was born in Ohio, Williams considers Needham her hometown and graduated from the town’s high school in 1983, according to her NASA biography. In 2019, Needham renamed an elementary school after Williams to honor her aerospace career, MassLive previously reported. It was also the first time a school in Needham was named after a woman of color.
World War II was the last time Mass. residents could set off their own fireworks
While it used to have the company of a few other states, Massachusetts is now the only U.S. state with a full ban on consumer fireworks. In the Bay State, private citizens cannot possess, sell or use fireworks of any kind, including sparklers and firecrackers. According to CBS News, the state’s ban has existed since 1943, meaning World War II was the last time Massachusetts residents were able to use fireworks for personal displays.

The United States turned 248 years old Thursday, and Newton celebrated her birthday with a carnival, a kids’ festival and fireworks. The beautiful summer weather brought thousands of people to Albemarle Field to sit, enjoy some music, eat some food and enjoy the loud, lit-up night sky over Newton.
Newton kicks off Fourth events with the kids
Hundreds of kids in red, white and blue flocked to Newton Centre Bowl on Thursday morning, ringing in the Fourth of July with ice cream, crafts and parades. “It’s a great way to celebrate this holiday,” said Stephen Farrell, a volunteer and Ward 8 city councilor. “It’s another way to build community.”

With only 9, Johnson asked for a courtesy catcher and were denied by Dalton which should make next year’s rematch one to circle on the calendar. Johnson North captain SS Chris King was fired up at the denial and promised payback.

Massachusetts police warn of scheme being used to steal packages being delivered to homes
Porch pirates are nothing new in Massachusetts, however, their tactics have changed to become a little more sophisticated. The Westminster Police Department recently took reports of thefts of delivered packages from FedEx and Amazon. These reports are very similar with a typically high-valued package being delivered and within minutes of the delivery, a suspect is seen approaching the house carrying a box or a bag and will either take the package or trade an empty box for an item that was delivered.
