Ashville Days Set for Saturday
Ashville will hold their one-day Ashville Days on Saturday. The day will kick-off with a parade in Ashville at 10:00 a.m. Following the parade, visitors will be able to explore a craft show and vendor fair in the heart of the town at the Ashville Commons in addition to town-wide garage sales taking place during the day. Live music and family-friendly activities will be present throughout the day and Ashville Days will culminate with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at the Lower Lake Area Men’s Association (LLAMA) Club.
Relay Flag Arrives in Dunkirk for Laurel Memorial Run/Walk
Chautauqua County's annual celebration of the achievements of people with developmental disabilities is off and running. Several runners made the trip from Jamestown to Dunkirk on a flag relay to kick off the 28th annual Laurel Memorial Run and Walk on Friday. The Chautauqua County Fair's showpiece event is celebrating a milestone. The 60th annual 4-H Meat Animal Sale is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 PM at the Warren K. New Commander Takes Over USACE Buffalo District
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District has a new leader. On Thursday, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Burnham, a South Carolina native and veteran of the Afghanistan war, assumed command of the district that includes northern Chautauqua County. Burnham will lead the district's more than 300 team members, responsible for projects in 16 commercial and 19 recreational Great Lakes harbors, leadership of the Radiological Waste Design Center for USACE's Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, operation of the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area and the historic Black Rock Lock, as well as many other roles across a more than 38,000-square-mile area of responsibility.
Overdose Fatalities Halved: A Beacon of Hope in Chautauqua County
(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. – Chautauqua County sees a significant decrease in overdose deaths, showcasing the impact of community efforts and Narcan distribution. Chautauqua County’s Mental Health Association (MHA) celebrated a remarkable achievement at their July recovery luncheon. Executive Director Steven Cobb announced a 50% reduction in fatal overdoses from November 2023 to June 2024 compared to the same period the previous year. This decline, from 48 to 24, highlights the effective use of Narcan, a life-saving medication available for free at MHA.
