We kicked off our 24 for ’24 series with 24 days to go until the turning of the calendar from July to August. With Georgia getting fall camp started around then, what better time to turn the attention to the season and the team’s most important players.

Importance can have different meanings. We’ll try to explain our thinking for you with each individual. In some cases, it’s about their ability on the field and the difficult the Dawgs would have in replacing that. Others could be important for reasons outside of that.

Yesterday, our attention was on Joenel Aguero , who came in at No. 17 on the list. Today, it’s No. 16: junior defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins .

    Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins

    Class: Junior
    Position: Defensive Lineman
    Height: 6-foot-5
    Weight: 280 pounds
Hometown / High School: Gaffney, S.C. (Gaffney)

Georgia’s defensive line wasn’t its strong suit last season, but when the Bulldogs did play their best, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins was often involved. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive end has struggled to stay healthy during his time in Athens and dealt with more missed time this spring. However, when on the field, Ingram-Dawkins has been a force.

After a freshman season in 2021 that saw the Gaffney, S.C. native redshirt, playing in just one game, Ingram-Dawkins appeared in 14 of 15 for Georgia in 2022. He recovered a fumble in a win over Tennessee, recording a tackle in the victory as well. It was one of 10 on the season including 1.5 for lost yardage.

In 2023, Ingram-Dawkins battled injuries. A foot issue stuck with his throughout the season and limited him to just eight games. He recorded eight tackles but was impactful with three stops versus Ole Miss, two quarterback hurries against Missouri and a forced fumble on a sack in Georgia’s rivalry contest with Florida.

The numbers, albeit in a small sample size, give hope for what 2024 could bring about for Ingram-Dawkins. If he’s able to accomplish that, better days could be in store for the Bulldog defensive line. Also adding to his importance though is the fact that his health and his presence on the line of scrimmage allows Mykel Williams to spend more time as a standup edge rusher instead of having to act as a defensive end, sometimes bumping inside in that role.

All in all, Ingram-Dawkins is important for multiple reasons. Not only is his play impacted, but those around him see changes when he’s on the field. For him though, it all starts with getting healthy and staying that way.
