We kicked off our 24 for ’24 series with 24 days to go until the turning of the calendar from July to August. With Georgia getting fall camp started around then, what better time to turn the attention to the season and the team’s most important players.

Importance can have different meanings. We’ll try to explain our thinking for you with each individual. In some cases, it’s about their ability on the field and the difficult the Dawgs would have in replacing that. Others could be important for reasons outside of that.

Yesterday, our attention was on running back Trevor Etienne , who came in at No. 6. Today, it’s on to the top 5 with No. 5: wide receiver Dominic Lovett .

    Dominic Lovett

    Class: Senior
    Position: Wide Receiver
    Height: 5-foot-10
    Weight: 179 pounds
Hometown / High School: Belleville, Ill. (East St. Louis)
    Previous School: Missouri

When Georgia landed wide receiver Dominic Lovett out of the transfer portal from Missouri, I’m not sure the Bulldogs were expecting to get two seasons out of him. An All-SEC caliber player who had appeared in 25 games totaling 82 catches and over 1,000 yards, Lovett arrived in Athens and made an immediate impact. However, it wasn’t enough for him to want to take a chance at the NFL quite yet.

Lovett played in all 14 games for Georgia last season, finishing second on the team in all receiving categories behind Brock Bowers. He had 54 grabs, 613 yards and a career-high four scores.

If you go back and look at Lovett’s production last season, his best games came when Bowers wasn’t in the offense. The tight end was hurt midseason and missed time against Vanderbilt, Florida, Missouri, Georgia Tech and Florida State. Each of Lovett’s touchdowns came in those games including a season-high nine receptions versus Vanderbilt.

So what does that mean for him this season? It means he could shine without Bowers around. A versatile player who can line up either inside or outside, Georgia’s offense is going to count on Lovett to make plays this year that they might’ve turned to Bowers for last year. He was important then, but he’s even more important now as the Bulldogs live the post-Brock Bowers life – and get to do so with Dominic Lovett.
