The Georgia Bulldogs have sent plenty of their running backs to the pros over the years, but not many have gone on to find professional success in a sport outside of football. Elijah Holyfield is looking to be the exception in that regard as he's trying out for the WWE this weekend during their big SummerSlam event.

Holyfield racked up over 1000 yards for the Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart back in 2018 before heading off to the NFL the following year. After surprisingly failing to be drafted in 2019, Holyfield was signed by the Carolina Panthers. Holyfield then went on to spend time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals over the next four seasons, but didn't quite ever find the success many thought he once would have in the NFL. Can he make it in pro wrestling?

Elijah Holyfield trying out for WWE at SummerSlam

Pro Wrestling Insider reported last week that Elijah Holyfield would be joining several WWE hopefuls as they attend the SummerSlam tryouts this weekend. He'll look to follow (albeit indirectly) in his father's footsteps. Holyfield's father is of course the great Evander Holyfield, who most notably lost a chunk of his ear to Mike Tyson during a boxing match back in 1996.

Following a successful boxing career with 44 wins, Evander Holyfield actually once fought Matt Hardy in a WWE main event back in 2007. The fight was met with some criticism as Holyfield quickly destroyed Hardy in what was an utterly uncompetitive bout.

It's unclear what role Elijah Holyfield will actually play if he lands a spot with the WWE, but there are plenty of fun opportunities to be had if he does. A reunion with his father could possibly be in play, although Evander is getting up there in age. Details will likely soon emerge as to whether young Holyfield earned a position with the WWE, so we'll be monitoring this exciting situation closely.
