    Athens County student-athletes compete at regional track & field meets

    Athens County student-athletes competed over the past week at various regional track & field meets with the postseason winding down. With some athletes securing a spot at the state tournament in Dayton, here’s how regionals played out.

    Division II New Concord Regionals:

    Boys:

    In the 110 meter hurdles, Alexander’s Jake Roush (16.20) finished seventh.

    Girls:

    In the 100 meter dash, Athens’ Bella Sutton (13.30) finished 13th in the prelims. Sutton also finished 14th (27.15) in the 200 meter dash prelims.

    In the 400 meter dash prelims, Athens’ Jillian Bourque (1:02.65) placed 13th.

    In the 1600 meter run, Athens’ Olivia Smart (5:17.52) placed sixth.

    Athens’ Sophia Szolozi (10:59.03) won the 3200 meter run for the second straight year, besting the second place finish by over 30 seconds to qualify for states. The Bulldogs’ Landis Corrigan (11:50.86) placed fifth.

    In the 300 meter hurdles, Athens’ Adelaide Littell (49.64) placed 12th in the prelims.

    In the 4x200 meter relay, Athens’ team of Jesse Vaughn, Gaewelyn Krishner, Alexa Reed and Litell (1:45.91) qualified for states with a second place finish.

    In the 4x400 meter relay, Athens’ squad of Krishner, Littell, Smart and Bourque (4:12.72) placed 10th in the prelims.

    Athens’ 4x800 meter relay team of Szolosi, Margaret Nunemaker, Corrigan and Smart (9:31.67) won the event, qualifying for states while also setting a new school record.

    In the high jump, Athens’ Abby Stroh (4-10.00) placed 13th.

    Division III Heath Regionals:

    Boys:

    In the 800 meter run, Federal Hocking’s Evan McPherson (1:56.15) placed second, qualifying for states.

    In the 110 meter hurdles, Nelsonville-York’s A.J. Stone (15.32) placed fourth.

    In the 300 meter hurdles, Nelsonville-York’s Caeleb Layton (44.35) placed 14th in the prelims.

    In the 4x100 meter relay, the Buckeyes’ team of Kaden McWilliams, Walker Stone, Landen Inman and Makhi Williams (44.03) placed second to qualify for states.

    In the 4x200 meter relay, Federal Hocking’s team of Tariq Cottrill, Dillon Haynes, Cameron Joy and Ty Walker (1:35.91) placed 10th in the prelims while Trimble’s squad of Levi Weber, Cade Burba, Luke Orsborne and Beau Burba (1:36.80) placed 12th.

    In the 4x400 meter relay, Federal Hocking’s team of Joy, Cottrill, Haynes and McPherson (3:43.56) placed 14th in the prelims.

    In the long jump, Nelsonville-York’s Landen Inman (21-04.00) placed sixth.

    Girls:

    In the 100 meter hurdles, Nelsonville-York’s Chloee Vohlken (17.99) placed 14th in the prelims.

    In the 4x100 meter relay, Federal Hocking’s team of Brenlee Cottrill, Kara Jarvis, Addison Joy and Annamarie Montle (53.18) placed 10th in the prelims. The 4x200 team (1:50.67) also placed 10th in the prelims.

    In the 4x400 meter relay, the Lancers’ team of Ellie Needs, Rorie Tabler, Jarvis and Kyndal Snedden (4:25.94) placed 14th in the prelims.

    Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle (12-01.00) won the pole vault event, qualifying for states for a second straight year. The Lancers’ Stella Gilcher (9-08.00) placed 10th.

    In the shot put, Nelsonville-York’s Kyleigh Warren (31-01.00) placed 13th.

    Division I Pickerington Regionals:

    Boys:

    In the 4x100 meter relay, Athens’ team of Leo Martin, Griffin Porter, Anthony Sutton and Micah Heflin (43.04) placed 11th in the prelims.
