Athens-Hocking Recycling Center to host service days

Athens-Hocking Recycling Center recently received a grant from ServeOhio to help beautify its property. Each of the three service days will help with a part of the beautification project.

The first service day will take place from 1:30-6 p.m. June 1 at AHRC, located at 5991 Industrial Drive, Athens. It will be an all-out litter pickup of the AHRC property. The impact of litter pickups is always appreciated at the center, as AHRC currently has limited staff capacity to be able to address litter that falls off of trucks and blows from the recycle pile around the property and must to rely on volunteer support. Stay for as long as you like. Refreshments will be provided.

The second service day takes place from 1:30-6 p.m. June 8 at The Community Makerspace, 751 W. Union St., Athens. It is an upcycled art creation day with the recyclable materials that were collected from the previous week. Upcycled art projects created at this event, will be placed around the center and in AHRC’s new flower beds. There will also be an opportunity to make some art to bring home. Refreshments will also be provided.

The final service day will take place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. June 15 at AHRC. Volunteers will install the upcycled art made the previous week and also the creation of a few raised flowerbeds and flower planting.
