Gwyneth Philips, the top netminder selected in the 2024 PWHL Draft has signed a two-year contract with PWHL Ottawa. The Athens, Ohio was the 14th overall selection after finishing a stellar NCAA career at Northeastern.

“We are thrilled to have Gwyneth join our organization. She is a young player who has tremendous potential to be one of the best goaltenders in this league. Her athletic ability, skating, quickness and tenacity are skills we identified in the draft and we believe will help her excel at this level,” says General Manager Mike Hirshfeld.

At the conclusion of her five-year stint with the Northeastern University Huskies program, Philips recorded the best career save percentage (.958) in NCAA history. She was National Goaltender of the Year in 2023 and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top-10 Finalist in both 2023 and 2024. Last season, she maintained a 23-11-3 record with a 1.17 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage.

Philips represented Team USA for the first time at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship and won a silver medal. As the youngest of three goaltenders on the squad, she did not get the opportunity to play a game during the tournament.

Philips joins a roster with fellow 2024 PWHL Draft pick Anna Meixner, free agents Logan Angers, Rebecca Leslie and Alexa Vasko, and 14 returning players including forwards Emily Clark, Shiann Darkangelo, Gabbie Hughes, Brianne Jenner, Kateřina Mrázová, Hayley Scamurra, Natalie Snodgrass and Tereza Vanišová, defenders Ashton Bell, Zoe Boyd, Savannah Harmon, Jincy Roese and Aneta Tejralová as well as goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer.

Per the Players Association, salary terms of contracts will not be disclosed.
