Weekend concerts strike a chord in downtown Parkersburg
PARKERSBURG — Downtown Parkersburg was full of opportunities for fun Saturday and Sunday. The Parkersburg Art Center (PAC) and the Blennerhassett Hotel and Spa both held events this weekend that offered attendees music, good food and more. The PAC held its annual Tastes and Tunes event and the Blennerhassett hosted its two-day Summer Bash at the Blenny event which featured Nashville recording artist Nick Walker, on Saturday and Sunday as well as live music, shopping, food, beverages and more.

Authorities arrest suspect in fatal Vienna shooting
VIENNA — A man was arrested Sunday in Harrison County for the murder of a woman in Vienna on Saturday, according to a press release from the Vienna Police Chief. At approximately 3:57 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, Vienna Police were dispatched to 1000 19th Street Apartment 6, Vienna for an unresponsive person, according to the release from Vienna Police Chief Carl Powell. Officers located a deceased female inside who suffered from an apparent gunshot wound. The individual was located by a family member who immediately contacted 9-1-1.

As Benwood’s public works director David McLaughlin explained recently on River Talk radio, he and Police Chief Frank Longwell attended a meeting back in late winter 2023 during which a $3 million deal was struck with the Governor’s Office. The money was to come out of the Governor’s contingency fund, and finally, the people of Benwood would be rid of the nightmare that’s haunted them for decades.
Three arrested on crack trafficking charges
Three men were arrested recently on charges related to the trafficking of crack cocaine, according to the Mingo County Sheriff's Department. According to a criminal complaint written by Deputy T.J. Justice II, on July 9, he and Deputy M.E. Tiller were traveling in the Maher area when the deputies saw a Chevrolet Malibu that was halfway in the road.
