Dak Prescott To Angry Dallas Cowboys Nation - 'Be A Fan Or Not!'

    By Mike Fisher,

OXNARD, Calif. — If you are a Dallas Cowboys fan looking for a kindler, gentler Dak Prescott? A team figurehead to empathize with your feelings of anger or apathy?

You've come to the wrong place.

What Dallas Cowboys fans got as they heard the team MVP's direct message to them, delivered on the first day of training camp practice here in Oxnard, amounted to a scolding.

When asked what he says to Cowboys fans who are still frustrated about how last season ended, Dak's response was ... umm ... frank .

“Be fans or don’t be fans,” he said boldly. “If you’re a fan, you’re going to turn the page just as we do, you’re gonna move forward, understanding that you have better ahead of you.“

OK; "Be Fans Or Don't!'' isn't exactly going to be an official T-shirt sold in the Cowboys Pro Shop. Oh, and in fairness, Prescott was asked specifically about the post-playoff rebound, so maybe that put a sharper point on his response.

    But ... he continued.

“Sorry, obviously, but (losing to the Packers) hurt us more than it did them (the fans),” he said.

Again … this isn’t exactly the speech the Cowboys want their guys to be giving to the Booster Club, even though Cowboys fans hope it’s true — hope that the players are hurt, embarrassed and inspired.

“Obviously it’s on us to get back and to do better,” Dak said of those players before adding another piece of advice for his audience. ...

    "But, yeah. Move on.”

Cowboys fans are a loyal bunch, so it’s unlikely they’ll be “moving on” from their passion for this franchise … as much as there is an angry segment (for sure) and an apathetic segment (maybe).

But Prescott’s remarks — combined with his open discussion about his “freedom” to leave the Cowboys after this season via free agency - come across as more “defiant” than “inspiring” … something unusual coming from this team leader.
