Few if any pro sports franchises have recently enjoyed more spoils than the Kansas City Chiefs.

From their three Super Bowl championships since 2019, to employing arguably the NFL’s top player in quarterback Patrick Mahomes — while also become a pop culture phenomenon due to tight end Travis Kelce’s high-profile relationship with pop music superstar Taylor Swift — the Chiefs are clearly atop the sports landscape.

Unsurprisingly, Kansas City is among the top teams driven to to success with the backing of the massive fortunes of their respective owners. In fact, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt — per a recent study conducted by The Sports Geek — ranks second in net worth among all NFL owners at $24.8 billion.

“The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the Hunt family since 1963. Lamar Hunt bought the Dallas Texans that year, moved the team to Kansas City, and renamed them the Chiefs. All at a purchase price of $25,000,” wrote analyst Kyle Eve.

“Clark Hunt, has overseen the Chiefs since 2006, when Lamar, his father, passed away. Under Clark, the Chiefs have made significant achievements, most recently highlighted by their three Super Bowl wins since 2019. The Kansas City Chiefs are valued at $4.3 billion.”

It is fair to state that much of Hunt’s wealth has been acquired from inheritance. While the Hunt family has had success with investments in sports and other businesses, much of the family wealth comes from Clark’s grandfather, H. L. Hunt, who made a significant fortune from the oil industry. Still, the family commitment to fielding a winning team and reputable image has kept the Chiefs among the upper echelon in the NFL, as well as pro sports.

Hunt’s second place finish placed him only behind Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton at a staggering $86.4 billion. Walton is the oldest son of Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, which is one of the most successful US enterprises in the nation’s history.
